Happy Birthday Dr. Suess
Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts. He published his first children's book, "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street", under the name of Dr. Seuss in 1937. Next came a string of best sellers, including The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham. His rhymes and characters are beloved by generations. Although this exceptional author and writer passed away in 1991, he and his wonderful books live on in us, his readers! The "Hats off to reading" program and week long celebration was started to commemorate Dr. Suess and his many contributions to reading literacy.
Below my First through Fouth grade classes created their own renderings of "The Cat in the Hat", using oils pastels and my own directed line drawing technique. The fifth through eighth grade had the pleasure of creating their own Dr.Suess characters and placed them in "Suessville" to live out their lives as Dr. Suess would have them do!
