This summer, we had a blast at our art camp with the theme "Art in Space!" We were so excited about all the interest that we decided to host it for two action-packed weeks. It was a whirlwind of fun, creativity, and teamwork!
Each week, students formed teams that earned points by playing games, and we crowned a winning team every Friday!
On Monday, the kids got really creative by inventing their own AI robotic friends. We even got to see real AI robots, which sparked their imaginations. And let’s not forget Monday’s game—a super fun solar velcro game that everyone loved!
Tuesday was all about making paper and crafting some stunning watercolor covers for their space journals. The game for the day, “Solar Ring Toss,” was a little tricky but tons of fun!
On Wednesday, we dove into making 3D rocket prints using cool materials like corrugated cardboard and aluminum foil. The students had a blast playing around with colors and patterns, and they took home a variety of prints to show off. We also had a fantastic bean bag toss game that was a big hit!
Then came Thursday, where we learned about Felicette, the only cat that went to space! The kids were so into their watercolor creations that many took two days to finish them. We also added some movement to the day with a fun game of Stomp Rockets!
By Friday, the excitement continued as students had another day to perfect their space cat projects and create a dazzling 3D universe with pearlescent watercolors and sparkly jewels. We wrapped up the week with a surprise game where players pulled colored balls from a box, and it turned out to be the favorite game of the week!
When it comes to snacks, I love making things from scratch whenever I can. For this camp, the only store-bought items were individual bags of cotton candy. The students enjoyed yummy homemade treats like S'mores cooked over the fire, caramel corn, ice cream, and delightful Space Cat cookies!
We had such a wonderful time this summer, and I can’t wait for next year’s art camp! It’s going to be even more amazing!
